Gut Aichet | Wedding & Hunting Lodge

Gut Aichet is a historic estate above the Danube, just outside Passau, combining a romantic wedding venue, versatile event spaces, and a professional riding facility on a spacious area. The Anetseder family has been managing the estate for centuries and has skillfully converted old buildings into atmospheric event rooms. The large estate barn is now used for weddings, concerts, and conferences, the rustic hunting lodge is suitable for welcome evenings, bride kidnapping, or smaller celebrations, and the Scuderia serves as an intimate space and even as an official location for civil ceremonies. The wind-protected courtyard provides a picturesque setting for outdoor weddings and receptions. Two cozy guest rooms directly at the estate and the riding facility with halls, arenas, and idyllic riding paths complete the offer. Thanks to its location near the A3, getting there is uncomplicated, and the backdrop of orchards, ponds, meadows, and forests offers numerous authentic photo spots. Those looking for a venue with character, nature, and family care will find one of the most atmospheric places in the Passau region here.

Wedding at Gut Aichet: Locations, Process, and Capacities

For weddings, Gut Aichet offers several perfectly coordinated areas. The centerpiece for the celebration is the estate barn, an elaborately converted former hay barn with an open roof structure. Depending on the seating arrangement, the hall accommodates up to 140 guests with banquet seating; in conference or row seating, depending on the setup, up to 170 people are also possible. The barn is equipped with a large stage, professional lighting, an atmospheric fireplace area, a rustic bar, a projector for presentations, tables and chairs with covers, and decorative candle holders. For receptions or short breaks, the barn opens directly to the outdoor area at the entrance, allowing guests to catch their breath and enjoy the view over the estate. A clear process can be planned for the festive day: a civil or outdoor ceremony in the courtyard or in the Scuderia, followed by a champagne reception and group photos amidst the historic ensemble, then dinner in the estate barn, and later dancing and partying until the end – the experiences of photographers show how well this flow works on the estate. Particularly practical is that the ceremony and celebration can take place in one location; the courtyard is wind-protected and summer-shaded, and if the weather does not cooperate, the Scuderia offers a covered alternative just a few steps away. The Scuderia was created from the former horse stable; wooden planks from the estate's own forest, natural stone walls from local quarries, and traditional brick elements create a warm, intimate atmosphere. The room accommodates up to 40 people and is designated as an official location for civil ceremonies. This allows couples to have a civil ceremony directly on the estate without additional travel. For the day before or individual program points during the wedding, the hunting lodge is ideal: it is equipped with a fireplace, sound system, rustic bar, atmospheric lighting, romantic fire pit, and its own beer garden, accommodating around 50 guests inside. Many couples use it for a casual welcome dinner or as a unique place for the traditional bride kidnapping. For atmospheric wedding photos, there are numerous natural backdrops on the estate: the romantic pond, the orchard, meadows, and forest edges, as well as the yards and facades of the historic buildings. The team at Gut Aichet provides individual advice, brings experience with proven partners from catering, floristry, photography, and music, and remains open to new ideas. This creates a celebration that is stylishly planned while remaining personal.

Hunting Lodge and Estate Barn in Detail: Equipment and Atmosphere

The hunting lodge is the epitome of cozy, alpine sociability and is predestined for smaller groups with character. Built from natural materials, nestled in meadows and forests, the lodge reveals its charm especially in transitional seasons: in winter, the fire crackles in the fireplace, bathing the room in warm light; in summer, the beer garden extends the space outdoors, and the fire pit creates atmosphere in the evening. Inside, handcrafted tables and benches from the estate's own production, a rustic bar, sound system, and atmospheric lighting are ready. Depending on the occasion, the lodge can be used as a welcome lounge the day before, as a place for the bride kidnapping in the afternoon, or as a casual after-event location. With around 50 seats inside, it is also suitable for round birthdays, Christmas events, or club celebrations. The estate barn, on the other hand, is the stage for the big moment. The open roof structure gives the room spaciousness, the stage allows for live music, performances, or speeches, and the professional lighting technology sets the hall in an atmospheric scene. The combination of rustic and elegant elements – fireplace, bar, candle holders, high-quality seating – creates an atmosphere that is both festive and cozy. For presentations and the opening dance, projector and sound options are available. Particularly practical is the placement in the courtyard: access through the outdoor area facilitates receptions outdoors, while the doors to the hall can be quickly closed again for dinner or programs. Smaller formats such as elopements, after-wedding dinners, or workshops find the right setting in the Scuderia. Thanks to its location directly in the courtyard, civil ceremonies and receptions can be elegantly combined there before the guests move to the barn. Those celebrating with family appreciate the clear paths, the rural tranquility, and the clarity of the ensemble. The space offering is rounded off by an open-air stage in the midst of nature, suitable for concerts and cultural evenings, as well as the courtyard itself, which serves as the heart of the estate for summer celebrations and weddings. This allows for a suitable mix of rooms for every number of guests and every dramaturgy.

Directions to Thyrnau near Passau and Orientation on Site

The address for navigation systems is Aichet 1, 94136 Thyrnau. Coming from the A3 motorway, the Passau-Nord or Passau-Mitte exit is recommended. In the city, head towards Hauzenberg, passing the turnoff to B388 after the tunnel and the Ilz bridge, and turn right there. After about four kilometers, continue left under the railway underpass towards Hauzenberg, and after another 1.5 kilometers, the turnoff to Aichet is on the right. The estate is located on a hill above the Danube, just a few kilometers downstream from Passau. Due to its elevated location, the view opens up over meadows and forest edges, while the courtyard remains wind-protected. The approach is also uncomplicated for guests from afar, as the A3 provides a direct connection towards Regensburg and Nuremberg as well as to Austria. On site, the clear structure of the ensemble facilitates orientation: the courtyard is the central point of contact, from where the Scuderia and the entrance to the estate barn are just a few steps away, while the hunting lodge is located separately in the greenery and serves as a quiet retreat for program points. For service providers and teams with technology, the proximity of the areas is a logistical advantage; paths remain short and weather-independent. The riding facility has a parking space for horse trailers; those arriving with teams will find a special infrastructure available. For individual questions regarding arrival logistics, such as access for caterers, photography spots upon arrival, or coordination of shuttle services, it is advisable to use the pre-inspection appointment. This allows for meticulous planning of the arrival up to the glass of champagne in the courtyard, including photo motifs at the pond or orchard. Thanks to its location just outside the gates of Passau, guests arriving early can explore the three-river city with the Danube backdrop and then comfortably switch to the estate.

Overnight Stay at the Estate and Services for Couples and Guests

For brides and grooms, witnesses, or close relatives, two lovingly designed guest rooms are available directly at the estate. They combine rustic charm with contemporary comfort: large double bed, small seating area with a view of the orchard, coffee machine, and television, as well as a modern daylight bathroom with glass shower, toilet, and hairdryer. The location at the estate is a practical advantage, as it allows for getting-ready moments with short distances to the ceremony in the courtyard or to the Scuderia. Those staying on site after the celebration have time for a quiet breakfast in the morning and can enjoy the scenery at leisure. For the culinary concept of the celebration, the estate cooperates with experienced partners from the region. A caterer offers an open evening in the hunting lodge several times a year, with around 55 to 60 participants. This format is suitable for experiencing food, service processes, and atmosphere in a real event environment and for clarifying questions about the menu, processes, or special requests. Couples get a good feel for the implementation on their own date. In the planning phase, a free inspection appointment is recommended to check rooms, paths, ceremony locations, and photo spots in daylight and to precisely plan the dramaturgy of the celebration. The team at the estate brings years of experience and can facilitate contacts with floristry, photography, music, and other trades, simplifying the organization. For guests needing additional overnight accommodations, the Passau region offers a variety of hotel and guesthouse options within a short driving distance. The combination of on-site guest rooms for key individuals and a wide range of options in the surrounding area creates flexibility and makes the estate attractive for multi-day celebrations. Thanks to the quiet location, the day can end relaxed, while the proximity to the city allows for spontaneous detours before or after.

Riding, Horses, and Open-Air Stage: Events and Festival Flair in Nature

Gut Aichet is not only an event location but also a riding facility with tradition. For horse lovers and sporty guests, this opens up additional possibilities. The facilities include a large riding hall, a smaller hall, a dressage arena with floodlights, a spacious jumping arena, and a covered lunge ring. Additionally, there are 50 horse boxes, some with paddocks, an open stable with adjacent pasture, a solarium, and sufficient infrastructure, including a parking space for horse trailers. The extensive grounds feature over five kilometers of riding paths away from public roads through nature – ideal for photos with horses, a quiet ride the day before, or a supporting program for horse-loving guests. The large riding hall is used as a competition hall during national jumping and dressage festivals with international participation, underscoring the sporting quality of the facility. Cultural events are also part of the profile: an open-air stage in the greenery provides space for concerts under the open sky, lectures, or summer cultural evenings. This variety creates exciting combination possibilities. For example, a wedding party can enjoy a relaxed get-together in the hunting lodge the day before, while a riding training takes place on the grounds in the afternoon, or a corporate meeting in the estate barn is rounded off in the evening with a concert on the open-air stage. Thanks to proven processes, event segments can be timed cleanly, and the natural backdrop ensures a special experience with rural charm. For children and families, the vast spaces and proximity to animals also create a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere without disturbing the festive setting. Those looking for pictures with a rural flair will find countless motifs at the pond, orchard, and along the estate buildings – photographers regularly report on the diverse spots and the relaxed atmosphere that allows for authentic reports.

History and Old Brickworks: The Special Aspect of the Place

What makes Gut Aichet unique is the developed history of the place. The Aichet plateau has been settled for many centuries; it is documented that the same family has continuously managed the estate since at least 1472. The name derives from the oak, the defining tree of the area. A significant chapter is the old brickworks: already in the 19th century, Jakob Anetseder took advantage of the newly gained freedom to free the estate from feudal rule and founded his own brick production, which lasted over a century. Traces of this craft tradition can still be found today in the buildings, such as in the Scuderia, where natural stone, wood from the estate's own forest, and brick elements from its own production determine the ambiance. This connection between history and craftsmanship gives the ensemble an atmosphere that is felt during events: it is not an artificially arranged place, but a farm with a biography where many generations have worked, built, and celebrated. The current use fits organically into this line. The courtyard is the heart, surrounded by facades covered with wild vines, shaded in summer by the old pear tree. The estate barn originated from the hay barn and shows how historical shells and modern event technology can be meaningfully combined. The location on the hill above the Danube is historically explained as well: protection from flooding, while being close to the city of Passau. For today's events, this means: short travel times, rural tranquility, reliable framework conditions. When one hears the term Old Brickworks in connection with Gut Aichet, they touch a real piece of farm history and material culture. This origin shapes not only the optics but also the understanding of quality on site – from the careful furnishing of the rooms to the collaboration with long-standing regional partners. This creates the flair that couples, families, and companies appreciate at Gut Aichet.

Great location with super nice hosts :) We celebrated our wedding at Gut Aichet in early June and can really recommend the venue 100 percent. Whether it's the courtyard, the hunting lodge, or the barn - all the locations are simply stunning, and all our guests were very impressed. The Anetseder family (a special thanks to Barbara and her mom :)) is also super nice and very helpful in preparing for the wedding. We could always reach out to Barbara with questions, and she reliably took care of everything. The day after the wedding, we had booked a breakfast as well. The breakfast was really delicious and lovingly prepared. Mrs. Anetseder even baked homemade rolls for us. We couldn't have imagined a more beautiful place for our wedding, and we are very happy that we could celebrate our big day at Gut Aichet.

Gut Aichet brings together everything you need for a perfect wedding. The outdoor ceremony in the beautiful courtyard, the champagne reception (e.g., with drinks from an APE), the party & dinner upstairs in the hall (dreamy with rustic tables & black chairs!), and a perfect sundowner shoot with a visit to the horses on the many square meters around the estate. As a wedding photographer, I love being there!

We celebrated our dream wedding with a welcome party and brunch at Gut Aichet over the weekend (22-24.10.21). The wait was definitely worth it. We can wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful place to any couple getting married. Our guests were thoroughly impressed. The contact with the estate owners beforehand was always very nice and informative. Even when we were on-site, everything was perfectly organized, and everyone was very kind to us. We would definitely recommend booking the wonderful wedding room as well. We sincerely thank you for this dream wedding. Without you, it wouldn't have been possible. :) All the best, Melanie & Christian
